What is CESA?. . .and why it's important to you.
CESA is the largest, longest established and most influential trade association active in the UK foodservice Equipment industry today. Our current hundred strong membership represents an impressive list of the industry's best known companies, from the small, independent firms with specialised equipment lines to the major league, global players, geared for entire kitchen installations. Their common link is an aim to serve the hospitality industry in the most dynamic and responsible way.
Founded in 1994, CESA is the amalgamation of CEMA, founded in 1938 to represent the UK's catering equipment manufacturers, and the CEIA, formed in 1984 to cater for the needs of importers. Its objectives are:
- Effective collaboration between all suppliers
engaged in Food Service Equipment supply.
- Active co-operation with other like-minded trade
associations worldwide.
- To further the interests and raise the standards
of the industry and promote the welfare of its members.
- Sustained representation on all matters affecting members to relevant government departments and regulatory authorities locally, nationally and internationally.
CESA 's Constitution permits a wide range of companies
to qualify for membership: -
Full Membership for suppliers engaged in the manufacture or import
of food service equipment in the UK.
Associate Membership open to companies who are substantial suppliers
and providers of materials and/or energy or services to Full CESA Member
Companies.
Making it in the new millennium
The challenge presented by the rapid growth of the Food Service industry, coupled with the revolution in business technology means both increased opportunities and growing competition, at home and abroad.
CESA offers a range of up-to-the-minute technical and commercial services, linked with the latest information technology, to assist its members to take best advantage of the many business opportunities.
Representation
As a member of METCOM (Mechanical & Metal Trades Confederation) CESA enjoys the highest level representation with Government, the CBI, BSI, DTI and other influential bodies such as the utilities.
Passport to Europe
As EC directives are implemented CESA's involvement in European affairs becomes increasingly important. Much of its work is undertaken in conjunction with EFCEM (European Federation of Catering Equipment Manufacturers) a body of nine national associations, similar to CESA, collectively seeking to create a favourable climate for the food service equipment industry in Europe.
Services
Through the work of its Technical Committee, CESA is at the heart of the European equipment standards drafting process and its members have free access to the resulting technical material through the CESA Secretariat. The Committee also plays an active role in liaising with the BSI, the Utilities and Food Hygiene authorities, in its quest to raise food service equipment standards.
CESA representatives serve on BSI, CEN & CENELEC Technical Committees dealing with standards relating to food service equipment.
